Pastoral Nurse Ministry :
Calvary's Pastoral Nurse Ministry was birthed in November
of 2002, as an extension of the Pastoral Counseling Ministry, and
is directed by Pastor Sue Bucher, R.N. The Nursing Ministry effectively
combines nursing assessment, individual patient and family education,
and the health education of the congregation as a whole, with
ministry of the Word, Communion, prayer, and home and hospital visitation. The
Nursing Ministry abides by the guidelines of the Ohio Board of Nursing,
as well as the Parish Nurse Association's scope and standards.
The Pastoral Nurse Ministry involves not only licensed nurses,
serving as Pastoral Nurses, but also non-licensed lay persons
serving as Patient Care Advocates. Each of our volunteers has
a heart for ministry to the sick, shut-in, or disabled individual,
regardless of age, health status, or gender. This ministry
has been involved in the education of the body of Christ regarding
such disease processes as Alzheimers Disease, Diabetes, Cancer,
etc., and has provided preventative health educational information
to the congregation about eye care, child safety, organ transplant,
women's and men's health care issues, etc. In 2004, the Nursing
Ministry had successfully sponsored a community Health Fair, and since 2005, have been offering annual flu shots as an outreach to the church,
as well as to the community.
The Pastoral Nurse Ministry provides fully staffed First Aid Stations
at the church's major events, and has developed a Health Cabinet Committee,
composed of professionals and lay congregants, who, together as a team, have
already begun to help meet a variety of health and social needs
within the body of Christ.
